Will Speech Recognition Software Help You?

By Christine Pinkston

The rise in the use of speech recognition software in college kids and business people has increased dramatically in the last few years. The reason it has dramatically increased is due to the software becoming exceedingly accurate.

When speech recognition software first came out it got a bad name because the accuracy was very poor and it would actually take longer to use it then it would to just sit and type of paper.

As technology furthers so have the speech recognition programs. Some of them even boast a 99% accuracy and will actually allow you to easily switch modes between talking and typing.

One of the great benefits of voice recognition software is that by using it you can cut the time that it will take you to type by 70%. This could free up a lot of time for you if you tend to type a lot. This is especially great for college kids to have to write a lot of papers.

In order to effectively use your speech recognition software you are going to need to train it by reading passages that are set up in the program. This is important because everybody speaks and pronounces their words different.

The more training you do the more accurate it will be when you start using it. You have to do a minimal of one training session. If that is all you choose to do the speech recognition software will make more mistakes at first but the more use it the more accurate it will become.

Another aspect that can affect the accuracy of the software is the noise level around you. Some background noise won't affect the speech recognition software to much but if someone comes up to you talking, like a child, then more times then not what they are saying is going to be typed.

If you work in an office or somewhere reasonably quite then speech recognition software can save you a lot of time but if you work out of your house and your kids are home all day then typing might be the better option for you.
