Slaughter's Big Ripoff: A murderer is still playing games with the Mob in this dull actioner. McMahon gives more effort to his role as the mob boss than it merits. Red Sun: East meets West in this strange tale of a samurai fighter chasing a priceless Japanese sword stolen from a train crossing the American West. Cast includes Charles Bronson, Ursula Andress, Toshiro Mifune, Alain Delon, and Capucine. (112 minutes, 1972)
The Buddy System: Desolate baby tries to play matchmaker between his lone mommy and a grown-up buddy, could-be novelist and tool creator Dreyfuss, however there are spiritual problems. Pleasantly played although excessively recognizable (and overlong) romantic comedy. Cast includes Richard Dreyfuss, Susan Sarandon, Nancy Allen, Jean Stapleton, Will Wheaton, Edward Fall, and Keene Curtis. (110 minutes, 1984)
Rhapsody in August: Average (by his estimations) little Kurosawa piece in reference to the hurtful rememberings of a Japanese woman who recollects the bombing of Nagasaki at the end of WW2. Gere, in a hyped up cameo, doesn't appear too out of place as a Japanese American member of the old lady's lengthened family. Cast includes Sachiko Murase, Richard Gere, and Narumi Kayashima. (98 minutes, 1991)
Hot enough for June: Discharged at the peak of the James Bond fad, this spoof characteristics Bogarde as a bumbling spy in Czechoslovakia. This film is an occasionally clever, gleaming comedy. Cast includes Dirk Bogarde, Sylva Koscina, Leo McKern, Robert Morley, Roger Delgado, and John LeMesurier. (98 minutes, 1964)
Darby's Rangers: Garner does well in WW2 actioner as leader of attack troops in North Africa and Italy, concentrating on relations amid his platoon and their beach romances. Cast includes James Garner, Etchika Choureau, Jack Warden, Edward Byrnes, Venetia Stevenson, Tarin Thatcher, Peter Brown, Corey Allen, Stuart Whitman, and Murray Hamilton. (121 minutes, 1958)
