Important IT Considerations for Business Development

By Roger McMullin

If you're using a slow or inefficient network you could be missing out on some real opportunity for business growth. Having a slow network or a network that isn't secure will hurt your business if you aren't careful. Let's take a look at a few major problem areas that a lot of small businesses run in to.

Company Computers

One area that a lot of small businesses could improve is to make sure they are using up to date software and operating systems. If you're using an older OS or old software, you should really consider upgrading to newer and faster programs. You'll likely make up the cost in improved efficiency from your employees.

The older your computers are, the more likely they are to run slow. This isn't necessarily just because of your OS, but it could also be that you've accumulated a lot of hidden programs that are running in the background slowing things down. A simple fix is to get a new computer.

Secure Your Network

Another very easy way to slow down your network is to let it become infected with things like viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, and any other type of malware that you can pick up by being connected to the internet. This is a common problem in all businesses and homes today.

Are you using updated anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware, firewalls, and everything else in place that you need to run efficiently? If your network is running slower than normal it could simply be because you've been infected and just need to get it cleaned up. Take the proper steps and you'll be running faster in no time.

These are just two small areas of your IT that can really help or slow down your business development plans. So make sure you are upgraded, protected, and have all the tools in place you need to grow your business!
