Don't Get Scammed By Dedicated Hosting Providers

By Martin Kulp

Before you invest in a dedicated web hosting server for your company, there are a few things you should take into consideration: is it really necessary? Are you technically apt? And how is the quality of the host?

Can you get by with just a shared or even a virtual private account? Both of these involve being on a server with other customers, so you all share the computer's resources. Virtual private hosting is a step above shared where you have your own partition on the drive, separating you from other users. Most businesses can get by fine with just a virtual private account. Only if you are going to have the heaviest usage on your website should you consider going dedicated.

Second, you may have to configure the server yourself. Do you have someone who is familiar with Linux and Apache? Are you able to get the server up and running yourself if the host does not provide this?

Third, do your due diligence in reviewing the dedicated host first. Will they help you with technical problems if your site is down? Will they server your needs quickly and efficiently? Do a deep web search for comments about the host before signing up.

Before investing in and trusting your website to a dedicated web hosting company, take all the above into consideration. Especially if your company will depend on a reliable website as part of it's business cycle.
