Why Tintin Is Such A Popular Comic Character

By Jason Black

Tintin is a character from a comic book that originated from Herge, an artist who was based in Belgium. Herge based him on a curious and sometimes funny Belgian newspaper reporter set in a world in the 1920's. The character first appeared in a newspaper comic strip and its popularity grew as to see it published in many languages worldwide and soon to debut on the big screen.

The comics had a wide variety of characters. They were also based in a world very similar to the one we live in and thus a realistic portrayal of life as we knew then. It would turn out to be another reason why Tintin became one of the most popular cartoon characters in the modern world.

Tintin also had a lovable dog as a sidekick. Snowy was the white Fox terrier that captured the hearts of millions of readers worldwide. It also appealed to dog owners which increased the appeal of the comic.

Captain Haddock and Professor Calculus are two other well known characters from the world of Tintin. The former is a tough and grumpy ship captain who is often at odds with Tintin. The latter is a smart academic who provides Tintin with many answers on his adventures around the world.

However, there is no shortage of critics of the comic strip. Tintin might be well loved by his fans, but critics continue to point out the negative connotations they say exist in the stories. Yet, the comic strip has never inspired an equally bad act or crime.

With a first live action movie to be created soon, Tintin's popularity is bound to skyrocket. The movie will debut in 2009 and fans are waiting with bated breath. It will also introduce millions worldwide to the character if they had not already known him.

The influence of Tintin has not been restricted to just comic fans. It has spread far and wide to other areas such as artists like Andy Warhol. Musicians have also referred to the adventurous spirit of the character in their work.

Tintin comics have always excited fans from all over the world as they delve into the many exotic worlds that one might never have the chance to visit. And to top it all off, there are also different elements from the mystery, science fiction, adventure and thriller genres that are evident and will draw in fans from a wide base of interests.
