The Plough and the Stars: Boring, theatrical filmizations of Sean O'Casey's play with Foster as Irish revolutionary leader and Stanwyck as long-agonizing spouse who prays for his life. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Preston Foster, Barry Fitzgerald, Una O'Connor, Bonita Granville, and Arthur Guards. (78 minutes, 1936)

Ironweed: William Kennedy adjusted his Pulitzer Treasure-triumphing novel in reference to road individuals, set in Albany, N.Y., 1938. Nicholson plays a guy trying to come to terms with the life he turned his back on years ago. Streep is his longtime friend who, like him, can't stay off the bottle for long. Cast includes Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Carroll Baker, Michael O'Keefe, Diane Venora, Fred Gwynne, Margaret Whitton, Tom Delays, Jake Dengel, Nathan' Aisle, James Gammon, Joe Grifasi, Bethel Leslie, Ted Levine, and Frank Whaley. Down in the Delta: With her life a mess and essentially no desire to work, lone mother Woodard boards the bus with her 2 kids to spend the summer in the Mississippi Delta, living with family members and working in their restaurant. Episodic drama recoups from awkward start to better points for utter likability. Woodard beams and Freeman gives one of the best acting jobs of his career. Cast includes Alfre Woodard, Al Freeman, Jr., Wesley Snipes, Mary Alice, Esther Rolle, and Loretta Devine. (111 minutes, 1998)

The Sea Shall Not Have Them: British bomber airplane is taken down into the sea throughout WW2 and a huge effort is made to rescue it. Cast includes Michael Redgrave, Dirk Bogarde, Anthony Steel, Nigel Patrick, Nigel Green, and Rachel Kempson. (91 minutes, 1954)

Deep Red: There's style to burn in pointless terror thriller with Hemmings on the trail of a sadistic psycho murderer. Showy, weird scenes set to beating rock soundtrack. Cast includes David Hemmings, Daria Nicolodi, Gabriele Lavia, Macha Meril, and Glauco Mauri. (98 minutes, 1975)

Senso: Cautiously paced research of human feelings, chronicling the relation between earthy, materialistic Austrian officer Granger and his aristocratic Italian mistress (Valli). The film is an enthralling union of the neo realism of Visconti's earlier work and the lush romanticism often discovered in his later films. Cast includes Alida Valli, Farley Granger, Massimo Girotti, and Heinz Moog. (115 minutes, 1954)

Slave Girl: Story of adventure with a sinister man keeping Americans captive. This film should not to be taken seriously (there's even a speaking camel). Cast includes Yvonne De Carlo, George Brent, Broderick Crawford, Albert Dekker, Lois Collier, Andy Devine, and Arthur Treacher. (80 minutes, 1947)

The King and I: Phenomenal film adaptation of Rodgers and Harnmerstein Broadway musical, based on novel filmed in 1946 as Anna and the Baron of Siam (and redid as Anna and the Emperor). Kerr plays widowed English schoolteacher who voyages to Siam to instruct the Baron's numerous kids, and finds handling His Highness her best test. Brynner gives the acting job of a generation, and was rewarded with an Oscar reconstructing his Broadway role. Kerr is charming and her harmonizing voice was dubbed by Marni Nixon. Melodies contain "Hello, Youthful Lovers," "Getting to Know You," "Shall We Dance." Cast includes Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner, Rita Moreno, Martin Benson, Terry Saunders, Rex Thompson, and Alan Mowbray. (133 minutes, 1956)

Light Years: Conceited energized sci-fi fantasy, in regards to a prince who time-voyages into the future; he's enclosed by characters identified Ambisextra, Transformation, Chief of the Distorted, and The Collective Voice (so you know this wasn't made with youthful kids in mind). Cast includes Voices of Glenn Close, Christopher Plummer, Jennifer Grey, John Shea, David Johansen, Terrence Mann, and Penn and Teller. (71 minutes, 1988)
