The Girl Next Door movie is one of the most entertaining movie's that's been produced in a long time. It may come across as just another teen movie, but it definitely is not that, in fact it is a lot more than that. However, a lot of people are led to believe that this is just a teen movie because of the misleading tag line which says "Matt never saw her coming - but all his friends had!"
Hollywood has, for years, been releasing several movies that are aimed at the teenage crowd. They believe that they can keep dishing out the same plots year after year resulting in movies that don't meet our expectations, forget about rising above them. The Girl Next Door, however, comes as a pleasant surprise, especially since the cast is so young and inexperienced.
One of the biggest differences between this movie and the rest of the teenage movies is the humor. I can't deny that the other teenage movies are funny, of course they are, but that's slapstick comedy. However, the Girl Next Door has a lot of intelligent jokes in the movie which are definitely not slapstick comedy.
The movie also boasts a good plot that has moments that you can relate to. The story revolves around the main characters of Matthew and Danielle who seem to be growing up too fast for their own liking. This loss of innocence is also the theme in the lives of the other two characters - Kilts and Eli.
Matthew is a typical nerd with great grades but a very boring life. He never seems to have had any sort of fun in his whole life. The house next door to Matthew is soon occupied by Danielle whom he begins to fall in love with. But Eli bursts his bubble by telling him that Danielle is in fact an ex-porn actor. Matthew and Danielle's fledgling relationship suffers another setback when Danielle is offered another role in an upcoming porn flick.
Matthew is stuck between allowing Danielle to do the movie or giving her up. The ups and downs that follow and the way the teens portray it make for a great watch that definitely lifts this movie above the teen movie only label, making it worth a watch.
