Jack Frost - A forgetful father dies in an automobile mishap and comes to life one year later as a snowman in his child's front yard! Nice, genial acting and an absence of hostility make this an alright family film. However, it on no account conquers its quintessential problem, an exceptionally creepy premise. Inferno - American returns to N.Y. from school in Rome to investigate the gruesome death of his sibling, and finds "sinister moms" inflicting paranormal disorder on both sides of Atlantic. Surreal, hypnotic shocker by Italian terror maestro Argento doesn't make much sense, but it has a lot of style. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes, 1984)

The Search - Heartrending drama of American cadet Clift regarding for concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the lad's mother dejectedly looks all over the camps for him. Beautifully performed and directed. Cast includes Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, Aline MacMahon, Jarmila Novotna, and Wendell Corey. (105 minutes, 1948)

Fantomas against Scotland Yard - Ironic cliffhanger-type venture story, with Marais as wonderful felon involved in sports orientated adventures. Cast includes Jean Marais, Louis De Funes, Mylene Demongeot, and Henri Serre. (104 minutes, 1966)

The Defiant - A preoccupying story of 2 runaway convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from the penitentiary in the South. Fine performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes, 1958)

Bullitt - Classic McQueen antihero part that he grows to love. As a policeman trying to keep his witness alive. McQueen sees a great deal of mayhem as the mob is out to execute the man he must defend. Cast includes Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, and Robert Duvall. (113 minutes, 1968)
